Feel free to really jazz up the dip by serving as part of a board of snacks and treats to make it extra special. I like to serve mine with graham crackers and nutter butter cookies to dip, but there are so many fun options you could use!
See my notes below, and just before the recipe itself, to see all the ways you can change up the ingredients to suit you. Perhaps you have different chocolates and marshmallows already in your pantry. In which case, simply use this recipe as a guide on how to put everything together for a stunning little treat!

What does “Fluffernutter” mean?
The word “fluffernutter” is believed to have originated as a brand name for a sandwich made with peanut butter and marshmallow fluff. It combines “fluff” from marshmallow fluff and “nutter” from peanut butter (as in peanut butter). The exact origin is attributed to a recipe contest in the early 20th century, where such combinations were popularized, particularly in the northeastern United States. It became associated with the iconic sandwich made with these two ingredients, typically served on bread. Today, “fluffernutter” is also a popular term for any dish or treat combining peanut butter and marshmallow fluff.
This dip is perfect for July 4th celebrations, especially since S’mores have become synonymous with the holiday. The 4th of July is often celebrated with outdoor activities such as camping, picnics, or backyard barbecues. S’mores are a classic campfire treat, which makes them a natural fit for outdoor gatherings associated with this holiday. This is why we see so many S’mores treats being shared around this holiday! By putting this dip together with a big sharing board, you’ll be onto a winner!
INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR this Fluffernutter S’mores Dip
Only three ingredients are needed for this bake, keeping it super simple. Feel free to use the marshmallows and chocolate chips that you like. In the notes below, you’ll see that pretty much every ingredient has options based on your preference so refer to that if you’d rather use an alternative.
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
- Marshmallows
How you serve this dip is totally up to you – I serve mine with graham crackers and Nutter Butters plus a whole smattering of fun treats. You can serve this however you want, but use some sort of cookie to dip. But build a board that feels fun to you with what your household loves and what you need to use up! I always have random chocolate bars that need using!
TIPS FOR THE BEST Fluffernutter S’mores Dip
- Chocolate Chips: Use semi-sweet or a combination of milk and semi-sweet chocolate chips for the best flavor. I find using all milk can be too sweet. Avoid all white also, as these burn much quicker! Feel free to use all dark or all semi-sweet. Just base it on whatever you prefer!
- Peanut Butter Chocolate: I use mini Reese’s Cups, but you can use any sort of peanut butter chocolate that you like. I find Reese’s work really well as they already have that softer center that goes really gooey and delicious when baked. Using larger cups would work well too. Again, use whatever you prefer!
- Marshmallows: I use large white marshmallows. Just make sure they aren’t placed too close together as they expand A LOT in the oven. You can use mini marshmallows or a combination of both.
- Serving: Once ready, this will want to be served almost immediately for that real fudgy, melted goodness. Let it sit a few minutes so you don’t burn yourself, but have the crackers and serving board ready before you start making the dip.
- Bake Time: This only needs 5-10 minutes in the oven, as nothing actually needs to ‘bake’. We are looking for molten chocolate and golden marshmallows. Take out of the oven when the top of the marshmallows begin to look golden.
I make this Fluffernutter S’mores Dip using a 8″ circular cake tin (just like these). If you’re looking for another fun bake to serve at movie nights, try this Molten Pumpkin Pie S’mores Dip. Make Ahead/Storage
This dip really doesn’t need much advice to make ahead as it really only takes 10 minutes to make! That said, feel free to put everything in your dish ready to bake, to be baked at the perfect moment. If serving as part of a board, make sure the board is ready or that you have your graham crackers/cookies ready before placing the dip in the oven.
This isn’t a great one to store once baked. You could set it aside for a few hours and re-heat it if it gets too cold to dip. However, it doesn’t keep well for much longer than a day.
