This Orange Curd is super creamy and so quick and easy. Once you make it, you’ll never buy it again! I highly recommend doubling the batch and making more, as it is the cutest gift to cheer up a friend! You could sub the oranges for lemons, blood oranges, limes, or any other citrus fruit for a great twist on a classic.
Whilst only a few ingredients are needed, just make sure to use fairly high quality items, as you’ll be able to taste them all to some extent. You want your fruit perfectly ripe and fresh – frozen won’t work so well. And on that note, do check that your fruit isn’t too badly damaged/going bad in any way. The butter used in this recipe should be cold, taken straight from the fridge, to ensure it blends properly.
A nice and easy recipe, have sterile jars at the ready, and remember it’ll thicken slightly as it cools. That said, I highly recommend eating it whilst still warm, smothered on some toast or used in a cookie recipe! For other sauces, check out this Salted Caramel Recipe.
The Easiest Orange Curd Recipe
Makes: 1x250ml Jar
Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cook Time: 10 Minutes
Total Time: 15 Minutes
Ingredients
– 1 Large Orange: Zest and Juice
– 2 Egg Yolks
– 70g Granulated Sugar
– 25g Butter (Cold, cubed)
Method
- Whisk the egg yolks and sugar together in a medium saucepan. Then add the zest and juice of the orange, before turning on the heat to medium.
- Cook slowly, stirring constantly for several minutes – until the mixture has thickened enough so that it coats the back of a spoon.
- Turn off the heat and whisk in the butter, a few cubes at a time until totally combined. It should thicken with each addition of butter. If not thick enough for your liking, do add more butter (it will thicken a little more once cooled).
- Decant into a small jar and let cool. Serve on toast, hot cross buns, crumpets or use in baking!
